KELLY TARLTON

6 September 2016: Kelly Tarlton's is one of Nats' favourite places and she loves to take visitors to NZ to show it off. Today we took the bus into town as Nats and Brett had a meeting in town first thing ... We were a bit early so we popped into a cafe for a cuppa and some cake ... mine was like a HUGE marshmallow with coconut on top and a biscuit base.

Nats and Brett picked us up and we drove through to Kelly Tarlton's.

This is what it says on their website ...Set on the waterfront of Auckland City on Okahu Bay, just moments from the famous Mission Bay beach, Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium is one of Auckland's top attractions!

Kelly Tarlton's showcases over 30 live animal exhibits in spectacular habitat displays, including the world's largest Antarctic penguin colony exhibit and amazing underwater viewing tunnels.

Our fantastic Animal Adventures offer unique and thrilling 'up close' underwater encounters with huge sharks, including the all new Shark Dive Xtreme and Shark Cage experience. You can also head out onto the ice to get up close to our amazing penguins with Penguin Discovery.

This is the opening of a beautiful article in New Zealand Geographic ...  KELLY TARLTON Although he is best remembered for the Underwater World on Auckland's waterfront which still carries his name 22 years after his death, that project was just the last in a life brimming with adventure, discovery, originality and zest.

Unfortunately he died, aged 47, before seeing the one millionth visitor to the centre.  It is truly an awesome adventure and I am so happy that we managed to visit.

The very first exhibition is an icy enclosure with the most precious penguins ...

Richard had to do this challenge twice so that I could get a photo ... True scrapbooker that I am!!!  And he managed top go for 45 seconds ...
And then the adventure in the creatures that live under the sea begun ...

The view out to sea from the restaurant in Kelly Tarlton's ...

These sting rays are absolutely beautiful creatures ...

Then it was time to get on the travelator and go through the tunnel ... it is absolutely awesome to look up and see sharks swimming above you ...
This fish looks like he has a grin on his face!!!
It looked like this little fish was getting a massage from the coral ...
Thanks for an awesome visit to your favourite place Nats!!!
