Books and Bikes!!!

Connor came up to the cottage around 8 and had a shower ... he is not used to being around 5 little people under the age of 5 and the racket they can make ... and then we decided to go out and do some exploring ... Our first stop was the butcher in town to get some biltong.  We then decided to look for The Waffle Hut which the other guys had said they were going to for brunch on Sunday ... hmmmm!!!  We ordered banana and caramel pancake for Connor and Waffle for me ... disappointing!!! Although the Red Latte was delicious!

I knew that Connor was going to want to read his book so I took mine along and we must have looked terribly ani-social as we read across the table from each other.

We decided to try and find somewhere where we could just chill and read our books so we stopped off at a tea garden on the way back to the cottage but the set up was not great ... the service was horrible and the manager kept walking along with HUGE big ugs on and dragging her feet (which those of you who know me well understand that that sound really puts me on edge).  So I drank up my latte as quickly as I could and we were back in the car after only having read a few pages.

I saw a sign for Cathedral Peak 32km's so decided we would go and have a look ... the road was scary and we had to dodge lots of cows, goats and locals and when we got to the entrance we had to pay R30 each to get in.  We drove the 4km's to the hotel and they wanted to charge us another R50 so we turned around and went to the Didima Centre for lunch ... it took more than 15 minutes for me to get a simple milkshake and nearly half an hour for them to serve us burned hamburgers with cheese and bacon after ordering a plain beef burger.  I couldn't even finish the meal it was horrible.

We left there disappointed.  The only redeeming feature is the incredible views of the Drakensberg Mountains ... I am in awe of the Voortrekkers ~ They must have had the most amazing resolve each and every day that they traveled their way through these mountains.
I saw this gorgeous Aloe and took a photo especially for my friend Alison who loves Aloes.
When we got back we went back to the main house and spent some time with Esme as we waited for the guys to come back.  As we got to the gate this cow was standing across the entrance and would not move ... Connor got out of the car and only after picking up a stick and shooing quite loudly did it decide to move our of the way ... So funny!!! And of course I had to take a photo!!!
Here you can see the absolute delight on Connor's face after the cow listened to him!!!
We were starting to worry about the guys and eventually around 6 they rode in ... My concern was how exhausted they would be as the wind had picked up a lot which makes riding difficult.  The guys who had not done this before were all exhilarated at having finished their first successful trip up and back down Sani Pass.  Richard was very proud of them as well.
The welcome sight of my hunny arriving back.

Dinner was a bit late and soon after we had finished we were on our way to the cottage and after a shower we were in bed early.

  1. Such a pity you could not get in at the CP Hotel. Its of course our favourite spot in the berg for the last 20+ years. We have summited CP three times over the years ie the peak on the far right. One just cant explain the awesome 360 degrees view from it.
