WELCOME 2018 ~ Waitakere Ranges / Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

Every year on New Year's Day we go for a walk and breakfast at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens.  This year, of course, we couldn't do that as we are in New Zealand.  While chatting to Connor about their plans he said that they were going to uphold our tradition and go walking in the gardens ... Imaging my delight at hearing that.

I was chatting to Nats telling her about our tradition when she said "Let's go for a walk as well.  We can go to the Waitakere Forest".

Well, I was thinking "how difficult can walking in a forest be?" So we got up this morning and off we drove to the Waitakere Forest.  As we got closer I saw signs for the Waitakere Ranges ... OMGoodness!!!! Ranges = Mountains!!!!!!!  Well, we arrived and off we went ... first job is to clean your shoes before you enter the forest.

My hunny and me
The walk was seriously challenging and at the end of the walk we saw why ... This sign reads "CAUTION This track is for experienced trampers only!!!  We are experienced hikers although very unfit at the moment.  There were times on the walk that I was looking through the trees to see if it would be possible for a helicopter to come and fetch me!!! LOL!!!!
Kelly Nats and Brett
The trees in the forest are absolutely beautiful ... Richard, Brett, Nat and Kelly tried to touch hands around this beauty ... they only just got the tips of their fingers together.
Nats contemplating life, the universe and everything ...

At the end of the walk you need to clean your shoes again ... after a bit of a tumble during the walk there was no ways I could bend over to clean my shoes so my hunny helped me out and Nats said she had to catch this moment on film as it looked like Richard was cleaning a horse's hooves ... LOL!!!!
We had to take advantage of this beautiful photo frame ...

Connor and Steph sent me this beautiful photo of them at the waterfall at Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens ...

What an awesome start to 2018!!!
